Hi, I’m Margot—a doctor, a first-time mom, and now, an expat in New Zealand.
For years, I dreamed of living abroad again after spending my teenage years overseas. But life happened, and I settled into my career as a GP in Belgium. Then, in a whirlwind of big decisions, my partner Patrick and I chose to move across the world—and add a baby to the mix.
It was everything I had dreamed of. But then, something unexpected happened. Heavily pregnant and, later, freshly into motherhood, I didn’t want to go anymore. The idea of uprooting everything while adjusting to life as a new mom felt overwhelming. But it took a leap of fate and my partner’s boundless enthusiasm to get me on that plane.
This blog is where I share our experiences: the emotional rollercoaster of moving abroad, the beauty (and chaos) of raising a baby in a new country, and the little everyday moments that make it all worth it.
Whether you’re considering a big move yourself, parenting through major life changes, or just curious about our adventure, welcome! I hope you find something here that resonates, makes you smile, or reassures you that you’re not alone in navigating the unexpected.
Let’s embrace the adventure—messy, beautiful, and everything in between
